On a trip that transported more than 230 people to Havana on November 6, 2025, Yuniel Abreu Campos, a Dominican immigrant without a legal document and an active internship program under the Cuban Adjustment Act, was deported by ICE.

His household claims that he was detained and taken to a detention facility after appearing before the judge at an immigration hearing in Florida.

Abreu's Detention

According to CiberCuba, Lissete Tocado, Abreu's attorney, Lissete Tocado, and Yeni Fernandez, his mate maintain that the BIPA may have prevented any elimination while his constitutional arguments were being evaluated.

More details obtained from Univision's publication confirm that he entered the country in 2022 across the border and was a recipient of the I-220A position, a document that is given to those who are facing deportation proceedings but are free to continue their legal process.

His case was dismissed in his first court appearance, and ICE officials immediately took him into custody. In claims cited by Univision, Abreu himself claimed that he was taken to the Krome detention centre and then another facility in Louisiana, where he spent more than five weeks.

According to records, he was sent on the journey that brought 232 migrants to Cuba without receiving any deportation notice and placed on a deportation list. His attorney insisted that the pending appeal had to stop the deportation, and referred to the decision as poor.

Abreu's Living in Florida

Abreu Campos, a reported by Univision, was the owner of a little Florida development company. His family claimed that he had no criminal history or small infractions, and that he had a steady work schedule.

His spouse claimed that while his application for a Caribbean Adjustment Act was being processed, he fiscally supported the family. The family is unsure as to why he was removed and why the energetic appeals were ignored.

His home is awaiting a ruling in the circumstances.

Fernandez explained to Univision that she and her children are still living in Florida and are able to function without the major household support.

CiberCuba continued that Abreu is still in Cuba, while his attorney hopes that if the appeals are decided in his favour, there might be a route for him to re-enter the country, despite acknowledging that the current immigration situation makes that possibility more difficult.
