The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced it has dismantled a $27.7 million fraud operation by the owner of a California hospice center who used deceased people's information to deceive the government.
Federal authorities conducted a large regional operation targeting fraud rings in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
In the largest case, Christina Mareik, 61, of Whittier, allegedly provided thousands of fraudulent prescriptions for expensive, non-contracted medications through Monte Vista Pharmacy.
