Thousands of immigrants from Haiti and Syria face an uncertain future in the United States after the Supreme Court allowed Donald Trump's administration to move forward with eliminating immigration protections that allowed them to live and work legally in the country.
In a 6-3 vote, the highest court rejected the arguments of those seeking to keep Temporary Protected Status (TPS) in place while legal disputes continued. The decision opens the door for some 350,000 Haitians and nearly 6,000 Syrians to lose their protection against deportation.
The resolution represents a new victory for Trump's immigration strategy, which during his second term has promoted the cancellation of various humanitarian programs created for people who escaped armed conflicts, political crises and natural disasters.
