The president of the United States, Donald Trump, hopes that Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, will donate SpaceX shares to the so-called 'Trump Accounts' enabled so that parents can start a financial investment for their children, the benefits of which they will be able to withdraw themselves with tax advantages when they come of age.
“I think he will,” Trump said when asked if the owner of Tesla will make a contribution to the accounts promoted by his administration in an interview with CNBC from the Oval Office.
Companies will be able to donate shares to the new children's accounts
The US Treasury Department said today that companies can donate publicly traded stocks to new children's investment accounts, known as 'Trump Accounts', which are scheduled to launch next Saturday, US Independence Day.
About 1.4 million of these accounts will be eligible for a federal initial capital of $1,000, intended for children born between 2025 and 2028.
Trump highlighted the commitment made by billionaires Michael and Susan Dell to provide $6.25 billion to offer 25 million American children ages 10 and under an incentive to open one of the children's investment accounts.
The American president acknowledged having had a “small dispute” with the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, but claimed to maintain a “very good relationship.”
In addition, he said that he sent him a congratulatory note when the tycoon became the world's first billionaire last June.
