GKN Aerospace, which owns the chemical tanker that caused the crisis in Garden Grove and prompted the evacuation of 50,000 people over the weekend, recently paid a fine of more than $900,000 for an air quality violation.

GKN Aerospace works with highly toxic chemicals, such as methyl methacrylate, which almost caused a tank to explode due to the increase in temperature inside.

The materials are used in the manufacture of cabins, windows and other aircraft parts, which must withstand extreme temperatures, so GKN Aerospace is subject to strict regulation by local, state and federal agencies. Therefore, inspections are common.
