The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released data on Thursday, indicating a 1.3% increase in the Producer Price Index for September. This monthly increase contributed to an annual rate of 6.3%, marking one of the highest figures recorded since 2022.

Wholesale prices increased at the end of last month, largely due to significantly higher energy costs, which were influenced by the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. This prolonged dispute has had a substantial impact on oil and gasoline prices, marking a pivotal shift in the global market.

Gasoline prices in the United States have reached $4.33 per gallon, with diesel fuel costing $6.31 per gallon, according to AAA data. The high diesel prices are having a significant impact on industries such as agriculture and transportation, leading to increased costs for food.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released Producer Price Index data on Thursday, following a 0.6% increase in the Consumer Price Index for September. This development has resulted in an interannual inflation rate of 3.7%, up from 3.4% in August.

According to the report, a significant surge in fuel prices led to the overall increase, with a 9.1% rise in the past year and a cumulative increase of 34.2% over the last 12 months. Additionally, other key sectors also experienced growth, including a 0.4% increase in housing costs, a 0.2% rise in rents, a 1.2% increase in air charges, a 0.7% boost in automobile expenses, and a 0.3% increase in discretionary spending on clothing and footwear.

Underlying inflation rose in the latest period, with a monthly increase of 0.3% and an annual increase of 2.6%.
