As of 2026, a total of 212 public security agents have been killed in Mexico, an average of one a day, with municipal police as the public security body most affected, according to the civil organization Causa en Común.

In its report “Polices Killed 2026”, the non-profit association noted that this figure amounts to 654 security agents killed between October 1, 2024 and September 10, 2026, a period in which Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, has ruled.

The killing of 212 members included 85 municipal police officers, 66 state police officers, 44 members of the National Guard, 11 members of the Army, four federal police officers and two members of the Navy.

He also explained that the states that concentrate the largest number of murders are Jalisco (36), Michoacán (29), Sinaloa (25), State of Mexico (14) and Morelos (14), so the center of Mexico is positioned as the most threatening territory for public security bodies.

He also noted that from 4 to 10 September 2026, at least 10 agents were killed in the entities of Guerrero (3), Veracruz (2), Durango (1), Sinaloa (1), Michoacán (1), San Luis Potosí (1) and Jalisco (1).

In its latest report in 2025, the NGO documented a total of 348 police officers killed, an average of one per day and 9% more than those registered in the same period of 2024, with Sinaloa, Guerrero, Guanajuato, Michoacán and Veracruz as the states with the highest number of homicides.
