A California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer was hospitalized in serious condition after his police vehicle was struck by a suspected drunk driver Saturday night in the Grimes Canyon area of Ventura County.
Around 11:00 p.m., the suspected driver, Derek Skinner, 34, of Santa Paula, was traveling northbound on Grimes Canyon Road when his white Chevrolet pickup truck allegedly crossed the double yellow line and collided head-on with the CHP vehicle.
The California Highway Patrol officer and a 40-year-old woman from Chatsworth, who was also traveling in the suspect driver's pickup truck, suffered serious injuries in the crash.
