In a move enacted by his nephew Ovidio Guzman Lopez, Joaquin Guzman Lopez followed in the footsteps of his brother and pleaded guilty to drug trafficking fees, avoiding trial in accordance with a contract with federal prosecutors.

In addition to the production, supply, and smuggling of fentanyl, Joaquin Guzman Lopez is accused of drug trafficking, money laundering, firearms custody, and other crimes.
