Jonathan McKinsey, an engineering executive for The New York Times, was shot dead on Saturday in Dublin, California.Police arrested his father-in-law, a 77-year-old couple, on suspicion of murder.
McKinsey, 40, was found with several bullet wounds at the Dublin Sports Grounds parking lot around 3:08 p.m., according to Dublin police. Paramedics declared him dead on the spot.
A sergeant patroling the area found the man stretched in the parking lot.Nearly at the same time, the 911 emergency service received several calls about a shooting.
Police arrested Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77 years old and residents of Dublin.
Officials said Zhang and Chen are the parents of McKinsey's wife.The couple was taken to Santa Rita prison while the investigation continues.

For now, the police have not what caused the attack, nor have they publicly established a possible motive, nor are they looking for other suspects and have assured that there is no threat to the community.
Investigators continue to gather information to determine what happened before and during the shooting.
McKinsey worked for The New York Times since January 2023 and was engineering director of New York Times Games, the newspaper's video game division.
The executive was in charge of tasks related to the engineering and experience of the gaming platform users.
In addition to his work at the company, McKinsey faced several legal proceedings related to his family situation.
In October 2025 he was accused of crimes related to child abuse.
Documents also show that McKinsey and his wife, Candice Jang, applied for restriction orders for domestic violence during 2025.
The procedures were related to family conflicts and custody of their children.
The executive filed for divorce in December 2025.A hearing to determine the status of that process was scheduled for October 10.
The court records also include previous accusations of domestic violence between the couple.

Zhang and Chen are due to appear before a judge on Wednesday at 9 a.m. Pacific time at the East County Justice Palace in Dublin.
Both remain detained on suspicion of murder as the case advances.
