A former professor at Ohio State University, who had previously confessed to murdering his wife, was handed a prison sentence ranging from 15 years to life in prison.

James S. Hill, 77, entered a guilty plea to murder and animal cruelty charges on October 28, as confirmed by court documents. He received a sentence from a judge on the same day in Franklin County, Ohio.

Hill is set to receive a prison term ranging from 15 years to life for the murder, with the potential for early release after serving 15 years. In addition, he has been sentenced to 12 months in prison on animal cruelty charges, which will be served concurrently with his primary sentence.

A charge of aggravated murder against the individual was dismissed as part of a plea agreement, as stated in court records.

A recent statement has been made nearly one year after the allegations surfaced that Hill was responsible for the death of his wife, Mary Hill, who was 64 years old at the time of the incident, which occurred at their home in Upper Arlington, Ohio.

A case involving a couple in Upper Arlington, Ohio, began on November 9, 2025, when police responded to their residence following a 911 call made by Hill, who requested assistance.

Court documents indicate that Hill was allegedly coerced by a woman he met on a dating site, who had sent him nude images. He reportedly claimed that the woman threatened to release the photos unless he paid her $15,000.

According to documents cited by 10TV, Hill would have stated that under intense pressure, his sole consideration was to find a way to escape the situation, which he believed could be achieved by killing his wife and then taking his own life.

A man reportedly confessed to stabbing a woman, Mary, in the chest while giving her a massage, expressing regret for his actions.

A woman was fatally stabbed by her husband, who then turned the knife on himself. The husband, Hill, was hospitalized following the incident. According to reports, Hill also confessed to police that he had attempted to harm their dog after stabbing his wife.
