A shooting on the grounds of a secondary school in Nebraska on Wednesday left one person injured as police officers came to the scene to secure the facilities.
Police received a call about 8:30 a.m. about a shooting at Burke High School, in Omaha, just at the beginning of the school day, KETV.
The Omaha Public School district clarified that the incident occurred on the premises of the institution, but not inside the building.
Officers arrived in the area and secured the building as a precautionary measure. Shortly after 9 a.m., authorities that the school was safe and that they had recovered a firearm.
The Omaha Police Department said it considered the shooting an isolated incident between two people.
“We believe it was an isolated incident between two people,” police said, adding that the other person involved was detained.
Authorities also that the victim suffered an injury that did not put her life at risk.
While officers were investigating the incident, authorities kept the building secured by precaution and pointed out that students who were staying inside were safe.
“There is no active threat to the school,” police said.
The security condition was lifted around 9:15 a.m. and operations at Burke High School returned to normal.
Authorities did not provide additional information on the identity of the injured person, the person arrested or the circumstances that led to the shooting.
