A South Carolina mother is accused of attacking her two young children with a knife, who were found severely wounded and covered in blood inside her home in Spartanburg.
Taylor Gosnell, 35, allegedly attacked her six- and three-year-old sons on Saturday morning. Among the two minors were approximately 50 wounds caused by a white gun, according to the authorities.
“Among the two children, we estimate there were approximately 50 white gun injuries,” said Graham McLellan, of the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, according to WCBD News 2.
The prosecutor said during a bail hearing that some of the wounds were so deep that they reached the bones.
The injuries suffered by the 6-year-old were described as severe.
“He is currently facing the possibility of an amputation of his fingers and possibly one arm due to the severity of the injury suffered,” the prosecutor’s office said.
Authorities believe Gosnell used a knife and an object during the attack.
The two children were transferred to the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, both of whom were in stable condition and are expected to survive, according to authorities.
The officers came to the house around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday to perform a well-being check.
When they arrived, they found the two children alone and covered in blood.
The investigators also found blood in different areas of the house, according to WCBD, the televisions and mirrors had been destroyed and there were glasses and other debris scattered around the site.
The well-being check occurred after the 6-year-old called his grandmother to tell him he was hungry.
Gosnell’s grandmother and ex-boyfriend went to the house and called the police.
Investigators said Gosnell returned home shortly after police arrived at the scene.
According to the prosecutor, the woman seemed to be upset and spoke quickly.
Officers took her to an ambulance to perform a mental health assessment, but she allegedly tried to escape.
Gosnell was sent to prison and was denied the possibility of leaving under bail on Sunday.
She was initially charged with two charges of attempted murder, and subsequently, investigators obtained additional arrests for possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
The investigation continues.
