Maluma visited Los Angeles a few days ago, but it wasn’t to offer a concert or promote his music. He went to participate in an event where he confessed one of his greatest weaknesses: his passion for Hot Wheels toy carts.
“The Hot Wheels have been a part of my life,” the Colombian singer told an audience gathered at a club on the iconic Abbot Kinney Avenue in Venice, California. “But when I was a kid, it was very difficult to get them in Colombia.”
The only way was, he said, if any acquaintance traveled to the United States and then returned with the precious toy. And that was his case, when a uncle who visited this country brought him a set of chariots. Then the little Juan Luis Londoño — Maluma’s name — went crazy with that toy that was invented 58 years ago.
The company that manufactures the Hot Wheels has partnered with Maluma, with influencer Alex Hirschi, known as Supercar Blondie, and with former Barcelona player and current member of the Chicago Fire FC team, Robert Lewandowski, for the Challenge Accepted, a global campaign “which advocates the challenging spirit and mentality that drives people to take risks, challenge expectations and pursue their passions.”
As part of this collaboration, the three celebrities co-designed with Hot Wheels their own cart inspired by their personal experiences and their tastes. Maluma, 32, chose the Toyota Land Cruiser, a car he chose to represent used, with land and apparent imperfections due to its constant use.
The intention, he said, was to show that it is a vehicle in which the family can be transported, especially now that it will grow because he announced that he expects, along with his girlfriend Susana Gómez, the arrival of his second son, who will be a man. Her firstborn was born in 2024 and the singer says the girl is also a fan of the Hot Wheels.
The three chariots from the so-called 2026 Global Legends Collection will be available in the spring of 2027.
