Alvaro Fidalgo awaits his call-up to the Mexican National Team
Carlos Reinoso revealed that Fidalgo is eager to represent El Tri. It all depends now on Javier Aguirre
Alvaro Fidalgo is one of the possible additions to Javier Aguirre's squad leading up to the 2026 World Cup. The Spanish midfielder, who became a naturalized Mexican citizen, has been one of Club America's most decisive players. Carlos Reinoso revealed that Fidalgo's desire is to represent Mexico. The former Real Madrid player has dazzled in Mexico since his arrival in Liga MX. Carlos Reinoso, former coach of Club America, revealed that he had a conversation with Fidalgo, during which Fidalgo reaffirmed his upcoming international goals. "I spoke with him, and he wants to play in the World Cup, but for that to happen, Javier (Aguirre) has to call him up. We're friends, and I love him very much," said Carlos Reinoso during his appearance on the program Linea de 4. However, Alvaro Fidalgo needs to improve his performance in the Apertura 2026 tournament. The previous tournament wasn't the best for the Spaniard, and even less so for Club America. Andre Jardine himself, before his debut against Xolos, acknowledged that the Apertura 2025 was not Fidalgo's best tournament. "The last tournament was his worst performance since arriving in America. He's aware of it; he had personal problems, but they don't justify repeating those issues. The most important thing is that I see him returning to his best form: intense, involved, very creative—that's his trademark. He's very focused on achieving another goal," said the Brazilian coach. Alvaro Fidalgo in Mexico: The 28-year-old midfielder arrived in Liga MX in July 2021. Since then, Fidalgo has established himself in the midfield for Club America and has become an undisputed starter for this winning team. Alvaro Fidalgo has already accumulated 225 appearances for Club America. The Spanish midfielder has scored 22 goals and provided 30 assists in over 17,000 minutes on the field. Fidalgo has won the 2023 Apertura, 2024 Clausura, 2024 Apertura, 2024 Campeones Cup, and the 2024 Liga MX Super Cup.
