Italian driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli is poised to potentially clinch the Formula One world championship at the Grand Prix of Mexico, following his ninth victory of the season at the Austin, Texas circuit. Although he secured the win, the outcomes of his main competitors in the United States prevented him from mathematically securing the title at that event.

Antonelli holds a significant lead in the standings with 365 points, outpacing his teammate George Russell by 123 units and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who is driving for Ferrari, by 124 points. The upcoming racing event is scheduled to take place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City.

A 20-year-old driver secured the pole position and ultimately finished ahead of Charles Leclerc of Ferrari and Max Verstappen of Red Bull, who boasts four world championships, in the United States Grand Prix. The trio completed the podium.

Antonelli's chances of securing the title in Austin were contingent on his own performance and the results of his competitors. To achieve this goal, he required a victory, while also needing Russell to finish no better than ninth and Hamilton to place no higher than fifth.

Mercedes driver Antonelli secured a crucial first-place finish, while Russell and Hamilton placed eighth and fourth, respectively. The outcome has delayed the championship's final determination until the next race, where Antonelli will have another opportunity to clinch the title.

To secure the championship in Mexico, Antonelli must finish within the top nine positions. Additionally, he has a chance to win the title if he places outside the top nine, provided that neither of his two direct competitors achieves a higher finish.

The Italian driver achieved a historic milestone by becoming the youngest world champion in the history of Formula One, marking a significant achievement for his country, where he joined an elite group of three drivers to have won the category championship.

A substantial lead in the point standings will be maintained heading into the Mexican match, provided the outcome of the upcoming event aligns with current mathematical projections.

Kimi Antonelli delivered a commanding performance, but his pursuit of the Drivers' Championship will continue into next weekend.

Fernando Alonso, driving for Aston Martin, and Carlos Sainz, driving for Williams, both experienced less favorable outcomes in the Austin race. Alonso secured a 16th-place finish, while Sainz crossed the finish line in 18th position.

Mexican driver Sergio Pérez, competing with Cadillac, secured a 19th-place finish. Meanwhile, Argentine driver Franco Colapinto, who was behind the wheel of an Alpine vehicle, was forced to withdraw from the competition due to an inability to complete the test.

Antonelli secured his ninth win of the year in the United States, solidifying his position at the top of the overall ranking. With this victory, his focus has shifted to the upcoming Grand Prix of Mexico, where he has the opportunity to clinch his first world championship title at the end of the season.
