César Huerta has a new team. The Mexican world champion was announced on Thursday as a new player for Pumas UNAM, a club he returns to play at the 2026 Open after his experience in Belgian football.

The 25-year-old attacker returns to an institution he knows well and in which he played an important role between Open 2022 and Open 2024. Although his recording had been as virtually closed by Mexican media days ago, it was until this Thursday when the Pumas made their incorporation official.
His return occurs at an important moment in his career, both for the challenge of recovering club-level protagonism and for his intention to stay close to the Mexican national team.

Huerta left Pumas in early 2025 to start a new experience with Anderlecht, the Belgian league. His passage through Europe had positive moments, although he was also conditioned by some physical problems.
A pubalgia affected his performance and came to question his presence in the World Cup, a tournament in which he finally participated with Mexico, which reached the final eighth.
Now, the footballer returns to the MX League with the intention of recovering continuity and becoming again a determining element for college students.
During his first stage with Pumas, César Huerta played 87 matches between the 2022 Open and the 2024 Open, including seven Leagues Cup matches, and scored 20 points.
One always returns to where he was happy... and Chinomania is back! ?????May this new story with blue and gold be even better. The whole family welcomes you with open arms! Let them go? Welcome message to the “Chinese”?#AlwaysPumas pic.twitter.com/uIdTjUzKXZ
Huerta’s return offers Argentine coach Esteban Solari a piece capable of playing in different areas of the offensive front.
The Mexican stands out for his speed, ball handling and ability to play both as a midfielder and in more advanced positions. That versatility can become an important resource for some Pumas who currently occupy the ninth position of the Open 2026.
Huerta will join an attack that also has players with experience and offensive ability, including world champion Guillermo Martínez, Brazilian Juninho and Paraguayan Robert Morales.
Internal competition will be important in defining your role, but your knowledge of the club and the MX League could facilitate your adaptation to the university team.

Beyond the immediate goal of helping Pumas in the Open 2026, the return to Mexico represents for Huerta an opportunity to regain visibility in the face of the upcoming international commitments.
The footballerins as one of his goals to be again in the plans of the national team of Mexico and to come up with possibilities to play the 2030 World Cup.
His return to Mexican football will allow him to have greater exposure and seek the necessary regularity to compete again for a place in national competitions.

The university team has scheduled a visit to the Xolos of Tijuana on the sixth day of the Open 2026.
The match represents a challenge for Pumas, especially because the team led by Uruguayan Sebastián Abreu has achieved three victories in its three matches as a local.
For now, it remains to be known whether César Huerta will be available for that match and whether Solari will decide to give him minutes immediately after his return to the club.
