FC Porto presented this Monday Santiago Giménez as its new forward, after concretizing the arrival of the Mexican on loan from AC Milan.
The agreement establishes that Santiago Giménez will play ceded with the Portuguese team until the end of the season. Once the loan is completed, FC Porto will have an option to acquire the attacker’s rights for $20.8 million.
However, the transaction could become a mandatory purchase if “certain sports goals” are met, according to the Portuguese club’s statement. FC Porto did not specify what conditions would activate this clause.

During his presentation, Santiago Giménez spoke about the decision to continue his career in Portugal and highlighted the importance this movement has for his future as a footballer.
In a statement to the FC Porto media, the Mexican forward assured that his arrival at the club will be “a stage that will contribute a lot” to his career.
“It was a very important decision because I want to keep writing my own story and feel important,” he said.

Giménez also explained what he hopes to bring to the Portuguese team and highlighted the combination of his Mexican and Argentine roots.
“I feel that I can bring to FC Porto a mixture of the Mexican and Argentine fighting spirit.It’s something that I identify with, I play with that passion and I want to contain my teammates with this passion that I have,” he added.

At the age of 25, Santiago Giménez reaches the champion of Portugal with the aim of finding greater continuity and recovering protagonism in the attack.
The Mexican scored only seven goals during the season and a half that he remained with AC Milan, an offensive production lower than that he achieved during his passage by the Feyenoord.
With the Dutch team, Giménez recorded 65 goals in 105 matches, as well as contributing to the conquest of a Dutch League, a Cup and a Supercopa.
Now, the forward will seek to reunite with his best version at FC Porto, where he will have a new chance to regain confidence, add minutes and become an important piece of the attack.
Although Santiago Giménez represents the Mexican national team, he was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, while his father, the Mexican naturalized Argentine footballer Christian ‘Chaco’ Giménez, played for Boca Juniors.
His father’s career was especially related to Cruz Azul, a club where Santiago began his training as a footballer.
The attacker went through the lower categories of La Máquina Celeste until he reached the first team, with which he conquered several titles, including the MX League.
His development in Mexico ended by leading him to European football, first with the Feyenoord, where he managed to consolidate himself as one of the Mexican frontmen with the largest goal production in Europe.
With his arrival at FC Porto, Santiago Giménez becomes the most recent Mexican footballer to wear the colours of the Portuguese team.
Before him, players such as Héctor Herrera, Jesús ‘Tecatito’ Corona, Miguel Layún and Diego Reyes defended the club and left their mark during their respective steps through Portugal.
The relationship between FC Porto and Mexico also extends to the development of young footballers. The Portuguese club has two training schools in Mexican territory, one in Monterrey and another recently inaugurated in Mexico City.
