Agents from the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized 1,077 pounds of cocaine, equivalent to just over 488 kilograms, during an inspection at the commercial loading port of Calexico, California, on the border with Mexicali.
According to information disseminated by media such as the weekly newspaper Zeta, the shipment was hidden inside a truck with a trailer that intended to enter the United States. The detection was carried out with the support of a CBP canine agent.
The drug was valued by US authorities at more than $20 million, making the seizure one of the most important recorded this year in the region.
CBP highlighted that this is the second largest seizure of cocaine recorded in Southern California during 2026.
The operation was announced by Sidney Aki, director of CBP Field Operations in San Diego, who recognized the work of the agents assigned to the commercial port of Calexico.
The seizure occurred in one of the main cargo facilities on the border between Baja California and California, where inspections of commercial transportation vehicles are carried out daily.
So far, US authorities have not publicly reported the identity of the driver, the origin and final destination of the shipment, or whether there are people detained as a result of the seizure.
