Immigrant rights advocates came out in favor of supporting a California bill that proposes imposing a tax on for-profit detention centers of 50% on their generated income.
At a rally outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Processing Center, activists demanded greater accountability from the facilities where immigrants detained by federal agents remain in custody.
Assemblyman Matt Haney, sponsor of AB 1633, stated that the initiative is aimed at facilities that continue to operate as for-profit detention centers.
