A B-52 Stratofortress bomb from the United States Air Force crashed shortly after taking off from Edwards Air Force Base in Kern County, killing eight people on board, according to authorities.

Eight crew members were on a routine test mission when the bomber went down shortly after 11:20 a. m. Emergency personnel soon arrived, but the initial indications were that the collision was fatal.

In a press conference, officials at Edwards Air Force Base, which is located in the Mojave Desert, confirmed the demise of the eight people.
