As temperatures continue to rise and demand for water increases, the Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) and local water providers share easy-to-follow tips to reduce consumption of this vital liquid year-round. Including refunds and free resources in July.

The “Smart Irrigation Month” campaign, launched by the Irrigation Association more than twenty years ago, aims to raise awareness about the benefits of efficient irrigation techniques and practices. The campaign encourages residents to use water consciously and highlights the social, economic and environmental benefits of smart irrigation.

“As July typically brings warmer weather to the region, this month is an opportunity to educate our community on how to make informed irrigation decisions,” said Steve Elie, president of the IEUA board of directors. “By doing so, we can collectively reduce water waste and support our ongoing commitment to ensuring long-term water supply reliability.”

Smart Irrigation Month, typically celebrated in July, coincides with peak demand for outdoor water and encourages the use of simple practices and innovative technologies to save water and money.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), up to 50% of water used outdoors is wasted due to evaporation, wind, and runoff.

The IEUA recommends following these important tips:

To help the community this summer, IEUA will hold free delivery of self-closing hose nozzles at the Agency's headquarters in Chino, from July 1 to 30, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. m. to 5:00 p.m. They will have a limit of four per household, while supplies last.

This free resource is offered in partnership with Cucamonga Valley Water District, Monte Vista Water District, West Valley Water District, and the cities of Chino, Chino Hills, Montclair, Ontario, and Upland.

In addition to the free hose nozzles, people can also visit their website to learn more about how to request refunds on items they purchase to save water. Items like high-efficiency washers, flow control devices, premium high-efficiency toilets, rotating sprinklers, and more. Some refunds for purchased products may exceed $160.

“IEUA is proud to collaborate with our local water suppliers to promote practical and efficient water solutions,” continued Elie. “Through these joint efforts, we continue to protect public health and strengthen our region and state for continued success.”
