Nearly 130 organizations are urging Congress to pass a clean extension of the Affordable Care Act's (ACA ) enhanced premium tax credits (ePTCs ) without any anti-abortion restrictions, according to the National Women's Law Center ( NWLC ).

The Affordable Care Act (ACA ), which was passed in 2010, aimed to increase access to affordable health insurance, improve the standard of care, and protect those with pre-existing conditions.

Thus, the NWLC cautioned that allowing ePTCs to expire at the end of the month may have disastrous effects on women and their families because of this law, which may make it impossible for people to purchase intentions through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

According to the letter, more than half of those who would lose their coverage may be people, and nearly 74 % may be people of color, and this figure is expected to increase.

In their letter to congressional officials, the participants wrote that" These premium increases will definitely exacerbate existing restrictions to cheap health insurance for women, especially women of color, and low- and middle-income people. "

Millions of people will be denied health insurance and face a higher risk of losing theirs, negating the significant progress made in reducing uninsuredness since the introduction of the increased PTCs in 2021, they continued. Additionally, the alliance made it clear that any attempt to use this mandated modification as a tool for anti-abortion provisions is unfavorable. We urge Congress to accept any further attempts to restrict abortion protection as it negotiates an expansion of the increased PTCs. Any attempt to further restrict abortion coverage in the Affordable Care Act (ACA ) Health Insurance Marketplace plans will ultimately result in" this is a thinly veiled attempt to derail negotiations on these essential tax credits," she said.
