A motion to protect workers' salaries took an important step by receiving first approval from the Los Angeles City Council this Wednesday.

With 12 votes in favor and 2 against, City Council members expressed their support for the city's Office of Wage Standards (OWS) to strengthen the fight against wage theft. A final procedural vote is expected in the coming weeks.

Council members Mónica Rodríguez and Traci Park voted against the proposal, while fellow council member Katy Yaroslavsky was absent.
