Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán once again requested his transfer to Mexico through a new letter sent to a federal court in the United States, in which he requested that the judicial authorities establish contact with President Claudia Sheinbaum to explore the possibility of serving his sentence in Mexican territory.

The former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, who is currently serving a life sentence in a maximum security prison in the United States, reiterated his interest in returning to the country and proposed that the Mexican Government intervene through foreign policy mechanisms to manage his transfer or extradition.

In the letter, Guzmán also expressed dissatisfaction with the conditions in which he remains detained.

Among their main demands, they highlighted the restriction of family visits and the need for people deprived of their liberty to receive treatment based on principles of equality and respect for human rights.

Likewise, the drug trafficker maintained that during his judicial process in the United States his rights were violated and stated that he did not receive fair treatment before being tried.

In previous documents, sent in recent months, he had also questioned the legality of his extradition and the sentence imposed by the US authorities.

It is not the first time that Guzmán seeks to return to Mexico. Since May of this year, he has sent several letters to US courts requesting a new trial or his transfer to the country, although until now the judicial authorities have rejected his requests, considering that they lack sufficient legal support.
