The Tesla Roadster, the electric sports car that has been waiting for years to arrive on the streets, will be presented on October 1, a date that could mark a new chapter for one of the company’s most ambitious projects.

The second-generation Roadster appeared publicly in November 2017 and surprised from the outset by the figures Tesla promised. The company was then talking about an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds and a peak speed above 250 mph.
A 200 kWh battery and an autonomy close to 620 miles were also announced.For that time, those figures placed the electric sports car on a virtually unexplored terrain.
The announced starting price was $200,000, while the Founders Series edition would be worth $250,000.
Tesla had planned to start production in 2020, but the Roadster never met that deadline and its launch ended up delaying repeatedly.

Far from lowering expectations, Elon Musk was raising promises. On several occasions he assured that the sports car could be even faster than originally announced, even with an acceleration of 0 to 60 mph less than a second.
The big uncertainty now is how many of those promises will actually reach the production model. The October 1 presentation should provide answers on its performance, technology and next steps before Tesla can talk about final deliveries.
Another element that keeps the attention on the Roadster is the so-called SpaceX package. Musk has raised the possibility of using about 10 small compressed-air-powered propellers to improve different aspects of the vehicle’s behavior.
The proposal would seek to increase acceleration, braking and grip, although there is still no technical confirmation that this system will be part of the car that finally comes into production.
Musk even spoke in 2024 of a collaboration between Tesla and SpaceX and came to the point that the Roadster could “fly a little.” For now, that possibility remains on the ground of declarations and not of official specifications.

The challenge will also not be smaller within Tesla’s own range. The Model S Plaid has already demonstrated that the brand can offer accelerations close to 2 seconds, with records of around 2.1 seconds to reach 60 mph.
In addition, the market already has rivals such as the Lucid Air Sapphire and the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, capable of moving in super sports own figures.
Therefore, the new Roadster will not only have to meet the expectations created since 2017, but will also have to demonstrate that Tesla still has something capable of surprising in a category where electric sports cars have advanced at high speed.
