Women Entrepreneurs Declare Resistance with 'Coffee and Braids' in Santa Ana
Young Latinas raised toys and funds for families affected by the raids
A group of Latina businesses raised money and gifts for Santa Ana's families and children through colorful coffees and Latino braids decorated with colorful ribbons and different textures.
The people behind the La Purisima Naturista business, which is owned by Cafe Cordova, Krytal Ramirez, and Chelsea from Trenzas Amigas, met next Sunday to discuss how to help their group, which has recently been severely impacted by the presence of ICE, has fared. The entrepreneurs have organized several events since the attacks started in June, including" Coffee and Braids," which are held in La Purisima Naturista's parking lot. Many of the women present were able to get their hair braided by Trenzas Amigas, a small business founded by Krystal Ramirez and her companion Chelsea, with each gadget payment. " Seeing our friends and neighbors being taken away hurts and breaks my heart. Despite having attended rallies, Ramirez, who was born in Santa Ana, felt like I needed to do more. " Locks are our method of protesting, of fighting, and of demonstrating that we are proud of our society," the statement says. Each project the businesses work on aims to be of significant assistance to the most underdeveloped regions. They have been able to support road distributors by purchasing all of their goods as well as handing out bags of food and essential items to neighbors who have been hesitant to leave their homes as a result of their tresses. The two friends gathered on Sunday to give presents to dozens of young people, and they were eagerly awaiting their turn to have their hair braided. While braiding a young woman's hair, Ramirez said," We created Trenzas Amigas ( Friendly Braids ) as a movement and a form of protest. " Wearing locks serves as a way to remind those who attack our country that we are not going to keep and that they will not destroy our persons or our society. The locks were created in Mexico using traditional indigenous hairstyles. and their mothers gave them their youth hairstyles, which included touches of glitter and great bows for the businesswomen.
Darlene, who was having a espresso for the first time at Cafe Cordova, claimed she drove from South Gate to Santa Ana after seeing the event's announcement on social media.
While waiting for her turn to braid, Darlene said," I feel like the attacks are increasing again, and it's crucial that we demonstrate as much as we can. " This method of organizing is "very lovely and powerful"
Attending these events is Celeste's method of maintaining her mental health, which she belongs to as a member of the Lucha Santa Ana group, a group that assists day labourers outside the Home Depot. She explains that the struggle against ICE has not been simple and has traumatized both her area and some activists like herself.
Celeste praised the difficulty of being existing during a attack, saying," I chose locks because I feel strong when I wear locks.
" I appreciate that our society and small companies are collaborating to build secure areas like this, which is what we need right now. "
The Cafe Cordova home was raising money with their new list of festive drinks to give Christmas trees to people affected by the attacks while Trenzas Amigas was collecting toys and money to help sellers. Additionally, the La Purisima shop was bringing toys for the third day of the year. Each of them wishes to keep working together to improve their local communities.
Lidia, a worker at the health store that sells vitamins and other natural remedies, said," These events give us the opportunity to support each other. " Thank you to everyone who gives us a helping hand; this wouldn't be feasible without you. "
