For most students, summer vacation will soon be over, and while some are ready to return to school, others have just started shopping for school supplies.
While back-to-school shopping can be exciting—picking up a new notebook or backpack for a fresh look—it can also be expensive.
For those parents looking for a little extra help, we've put together a list of places in Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, and Orange County where free events will be held giving away backpacks, gift cards, school supplies, and more.
In general, various organizations, local groups and even councilors usually distribute school supplies each year, and this time is no exception. Although many have not yet been announced, there are others that will begin to have events from the first days of August.
Big SleepsLos Angeles Artist Big Sleeps will host his fourth annual Backpack Drive and Community Events, officially taking place on August 9. Get ready for a celebration full of creativity, culture and community spirit, with classic cars and other activities for children. Karina’s Backpack GiveawayAnaheimWhile there are several events scheduled in the Orange County area—some of which have yet to be announced—others have already been taking place since early August. One of them is a prop and backpack event organized in collaboration with the “Karinas Backpack Project” and the Carlos León office in Anaheim. Karina's Backpack Project, fiscally sponsored by the Joy of Sharing Foundation, was founded by Karina Tarsadia to ensure students begin the school year with confidence, enthusiasm, and the tools necessary to succeed. On other occasions they have donated 700 backpacks full of supplies. The event will take place on August 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. m. at 2 p.m.
Backpack GiveawayRiversideAt Riverside, students will have the opportunity to participate in a backpack drive to be held at University Heights High School. The event, which promises to be a fun experience, will be held in the parking lot in front of the gym. The community will be able to receive free backpacks and school supplies for students, while the rest of the family can enjoy “The Hoops Bus” with basketball and prizes, free haircuts from local barbers and stylists, delicious food and music.
