A woman in Philadelphia shot and killed a man who, she told police, had stormed her home during Tuesday morning, but later discovered she knew him.

The incident occurred in the early hours of September 30 in an apartment complex located on Castor Avenue, in northeastern Philadelphia.

The woman told authorities she heard someone trying to enter the building and later heard windows break. Shortly thereafter, he met the man who, according to his version, had entered his apartment.

Police received a call for a shooting shortly after 5 a.m.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a 29-year-old man unconscious and with a bullet wound in the head.

Chief Inspector Scott Small, of the Philadelphia Police Department, told ABC6 that the initial investigation indicates that the man broke a window and managed to reach the mechanism of the door from the outside to open it.

“Apparently, this person broke the window and was able to put his hand in and open the door, and then entered this woman’s apartment,” Small explained.

It was then when one or several shots occurred, according to the information provided by the official.

The victim was wearing a mask when he was found.

However, while the emergency teams were removing the mask to try to serve him, the woman recognized the man.

According to Small, the woman told investigators she had a previous relationship with the deceased man.

“When they discovered his face, when they removed his pasamontañas to look after him, the woman recognized him and had a previous relationship with him,” the chief inspector said.

Authorities have not yet determined what kind of relationship existed between the two.

Small noted that the woman is fully collaborating with the investigation of the Philadelphia Police Department.

At the moment, authorities have not whether the woman will face charges for the shooting. The investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances that led to the man's death.

The case must also establish what happened before the man entered the home and what was the nature of the previous relationship between the two.
