A major renovation is set to transform the iconic Chrysler Building in Manhattan, following the signing of a multi-billion dollar agreement.

A historic skyscraper in New York, constructed 100 years ago, is set to regain its iconic status with the restoration of its world-famous art deco dome, complementing the building's existing 77-storey facade.

Tishman Speyer and its partners have acquired the property and plan to invest $235 million in renovations, which will include the 61st floor featuring expansive views and a high-end lounge.

Tishman Speyer and its partners plan to occupy a significant portion of the building, with a focus on establishing a new office presence in the neighborhood. The development team emphasized that the construction of new offices in this area has been extremely rare over the past several decades.

The Chrysler Building, standing at 319 meters, held the title of the world's tallest building for a brief period, however, it was surpassed by the Empire State Building just one year later.

The renovation plan, as outlined by the building's new owner, encompasses upgrades to the mechanical systems, specifically the lifts, as well as the electrical and air conditioning infrastructure.

Cooper Union University retains ownership of the land on which the building is situated, with Tishman Speyer agreeing to make rental payments. These payments will be allocated towards financing a comprehensive plan aimed at reinstating full scholarships for all undergraduate students.

Walter Chrysler, a prominent figure in the automotive industry, provided the financial backing for the construction of a facility in 1928, which operated for approximately two years.

The iconic skyscraper was conceptualized by renowned architect William Van Alen, drawing inspiration from the striking 1929 Chrysler car hood ornaments.
