Instead, it is more useful to recognize that this is just a passing idea and question its veracity. Asking yourself if there is objective evidence that this scenario will actually occur helps lessen its emotional impact.
Breathing techniques, mindfulness exercises, and focusing on the present moment may also be helpful to reduce nervous system alertness.
