The family of a South East High School Spanish-American football player, who died after suffering a brain injury during a match, filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) for guilty homicide.

According to the family of 16-year-old Christopher García, the LAUSD did not provide safe facilities, adequate equipment or sufficient supervision, which contributed to the death of the Spanish teenager.

Garcia, a youth team player at the preparatory school, suffered a brain injury on August 23, 2024 when he hit his head against the ground after running a defensive entry during a game.
