During an interview given to the television program “Fox & Friends”, Marcos Charles, associate executive director of the Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), a key division of the <a href="/topic/United-States">United States</a> Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE), indicated that the operation launched was directed towards violent people without documents supporting their stay in the <a href="/topic/United-States">United States</a>.
"We arrested more than 1,200 aliens, illegal immigrants, in the Atlanta, Georgia area. More than half of those people had criminal records. We're talking about sexual crimes, assaults and battery, some with convictions for driving under the influence, domestic violence.
These people had to be taken off the streets, not only because they are criminals, but because they are in the United States illegally,” he stated.
