Federal forces detained in Mexicali, Lower California, Salvador Díaz Rodríguez, alias “El Gusano”, identified by the authorities as the alleged financial operator of the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel.
The capture was confirmed by Security and Civil Protection Secretary Omar García Harfuch, who that the operation derived from intelligence and investigative work, as well as cooperation with U.S. authorities.
According to the information disclosed by the authorities, “El Gusano” has financial investigations in Mexico and has also been the subject of financial actions in the United States for its alleged involvement in a money laundering network related to the Sinaloa Cartel.
The man was arrested while he was in a vehicle accompanied by a woman. Officers placed a coffee-colored Toyota Corolla and approached its occupants to conduct a review in accordance with police protocols.

Security officials checked him and found 57 doses of methamphetamine.
The suspect has a history dating back to 2014. Among the crimes for which he was previously arrested are illegal deprivation of liberty, qualified theft, carrying firearms, express kidnapping, violent landing and qualified injuries, as well as theft of home room and vehicles.
The capture represents a new blow to the financial structures that authorities attribute to this faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, in a strategic area for drug trafficking to the United States.
García Harfuch pointed out that the coordination between Mexico and the United States allows to strengthen the investigations against criminal organizations and their financial structures.
