After entering a plea to the national love violence, the man who attacked an African American worker in Oklahoma City in 2023 while he was cleaning the parking lot of a diner was given a 10-year sentence.

Before U. S. District Judge Bernard Jones, Braden Birdsong, 28 years old, he testified. U. S. Attorney Robert J. Troester for the Northern District of Oklahoma claimed that" This defendant's actions were motivated by hate and resulted in a violent attack against a victim, targeted simply because of his race. The Department of Justice shared that the plea files from the court hearing indicated that Birdsong attacked a Black man while he was sweeping the parking lot of the Oklahoma City restaurant where he worked on August 25, 2023. The plaintiff repeatedly struck the victim in the brain while yelling racist slurs at the target, whom he referred to as "DG" at the victim. As a result of the assault, the man sustained physical injuries. Due to his culture and skin color, the accused admitted to assaulting him. Hate crimes threaten the health and reputation of our communities and may experience severe penalties for it. According to U. S. Attorney Troester, the Department of Justice continues to work to enforce federal civil rights laws and protect people from hate-based murder. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to halt hate-motivated attacks and praised the judge's decision against the defendant. No one should have to fear being attacked just for who they are or how they look, according to Special Agent in Charge Doug Goodwater of the FBI's Oklahoma City Field Office. " There is no place in our world for the love and prejudice that fueled this terrible attack," said Goodwater.
