The parents of an 8-year-old boy who died last year after a huge branch fell on him in a Calabasas park could receive $14.65 million as part of a settlement with the agency responsible for managing the park.

On July 9, 2025, Lamar McGlothurn was with other Camp Wildcraft participants on the grounds of King Gillette Ranch Park when he was struck by a 25- to 30-foot-long (7.5 to 9-meter) branch, weighing 100 pounds (45 kilograms), that broke from a tree.

According to the Ventura County Medical Examiner, McGlothurn was airlifted to a hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained from blunt trauma.
