The Colombian drug trafficker known as “Titi Iguarán” was sentenced in the United States to 25 years in prison for conspiring to distribute cocaine aboard a vessel subject to US jurisdiction, the Department of Justice reported.

José Ramiro Cárdenas-Iguarán, 47, had pleaded guilty in November 2025.

According to court documents, Cárdenas began his criminal activity between 15 and 20 years before his arrest in 2021, when he was dedicated to robbing other drug traffickers.

Over time, he went on to collaborate with other traffickers in maritime drug transport operations and later became the leader of his own organization, according to the documents.

In August 2017, the United States Coast Guard intercepted a Togolese-flagged ship carrying nine people in international waters and found 1,500 kilograms of cocaine.

Cárdenas-Iguarán acknowledged his participation in the planning and logistics of that drug operation, and also admitted to having transported cocaine for other drug traffickers and to having placed up to 650 kilograms of his own drugs in shipments destined for international trafficking.

He also assumed responsibility for a shipment of cocaine seized in the Dominican Republic and for another shipment destined for Puerto Rico.

The investigation was carried out by US authorities and the Anti-Narcotics Directorate of the Colombian National Police.
