Two elements of the Tecate Municipal Police were arrested for their alleged collaboration with members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), while three other agents remain under investigation for possible links with the same criminal organization.

The State Attorney General, María Elena Andrade Ramírez, reported that the arrests resulted from investigations carried out after the capture of five hitmen related to various homicides that occurred recently in the border municipality.

According to the investigations, the arrested police officers would have acted as “advance” of the criminal group, alerting its members about searches, operations and actions of the security corporations.

Authorities maintain that agents shared confidential information through messages and other communication channels, allowing alleged criminals to evade justice.

Andrade Ramírez pointed out that the evidence obtained points to a direct collaboration of the uniformed personnel with the operational structure of the CJNG. In addition, he indicated that the investigations continue and could lead to new arrest warrants against other elements of the municipal corporation.

The prosecutor also revealed that one of the agents under investigation is located and that the authorities maintain surveillance of his home.

Likewise, he drew attention to other police officers who requested medical leave shortly after the arrests, a situation that will be reviewed to determine if there is any relationship with the ongoing investigations.

The authorities do not rule out that the detained officers may be related to other criminal acts recorded in the region, including the murder of a commander of the State Investigation Agency that recently occurred in Tecate.

The case adds to the efforts of state authorities to detect possible acts of infiltration by organized crime in police corporations in Baja California and reinforce internal control mechanisms in matters of public security.
