The man who insulted and then stabbed an African American woman on a bus in Washington in 2024 pleaded guilty to the hate crime.

The Department of Justice reported that Adan C. Hernandez Mayoral made derogatory comments about African Americans while riding on a King County Metro bus.

Racial and derogatory comments

Hernandez Mayoral yelled at another passenger on the bus and made racially derogatory comments directed at the victim, including referring to the woman as “Rosa Parks” and telling her to move to the back of the bus.

According to the documents, the woman walked to the front of the bus to try to get help and call the police, but the man followed her.
