Andrea Béjar always knew: school was not one of her passions. What really made her feel alive and filled her with emotion was the music. In part, his parents and grandmother were responsible; His father listened to a lot of eighties rock and his grandmother listened to classics like Pedro Infante and Agustín Lara.

“I think I [also] owe a lot of my musical taste to my sister,” he said. “Everything she heard I wanted to hear too.”

Through that influence he met Natalia Lafourcade, one of the greatest references of this 25-year-old Mexican singer who is beginning her career and who is emerging as one of the great promises of folk and indie music.

But just as he rejected the traditional school, he stood out in the artistic aspect. He studied guitar and piano, took singing classes, and danced hip hop for eight years. When it was time to study a career, he enrolled at Drexel University in Philadelphia, where he studied two and a half years of music industry with a specialization in production.

However, Andrea was already making her first steps on her social networks, especially with covers. Everything changed when one day she uploaded the song “Despierto”, the first song she composed herself. The song went viral and not only managed to launch Andrea's career, but also encouraged her to continue writing her own compositions, something that was not in her plans.

“After that I started making more songs in Spanish, and also in English,” he said.

And, although Andrea was born in Mexico City, her parents lived a large part of the artist's life in the United States for work reasons. They already live again in their country, but Andrea established her residence in Los Angeles for a couple of years.

That is why it is easy for her to move between the two languages ​​she masters, and this is how it is reflected in her debut album “In Bloom”, which will be released on October 2. To date he has released the singles “Delicately”, “Petrichor” and “Te vas a repentir (Don’t Hurt Him)”; the latter written in collaboration with the Mexican artist Arath Herce. The album includes twelve songs, of which three are in Spanish.

Before this production, Andrea released two EPs, “Stained Glass”, in 2024, and “Love Again”, in 2025. Of the latter, “Tu Fantasma” stood out, one of the songs that also gave her visibility and was partly responsible for putting her in the eyes of performers such as Kevin Kaarl and Iván Cornejo, who invited her as an opening act on their recent tours.

In September, Andrea will participate in AmericanaFest, a music event and industry conference held annually in Nashville, Tennessee. Artists, industry professionals and fans gather there to celebrate American roots music, spanning genres such as folk, country and blues.

Andrea loves “the folk vibe”, and it is common to see her on her social networks singing alone with her acoustic guitar. It is an instrument that is used a lot in this type of music but also in boleros, with which she grew up.

“And that's how I mix my songs,” he said. “Stealing things from here and there.”
