Paramount Pictures started the development of the long-awaited sequel to “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”, the romantic comedy that in 2003 conquered the audience with the chemistry between Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey.
According to Variety, Hudson is already linked to the project as a producer through her label Shiny Penny, and both filmmakers and the studio have the intention that she and McConaughey resume their iconic roles.
The project is still in its early stages. Sources close to the development indicated to Variety that the cast and several key creative positions are to be defined, and he is currently looking for a screenwriter to shape the story.
The final participation of the protagonists will depend on the narrative approach adopted, although Hudson’s involvement as a producer makes it clear that his return is a matter of time.
Along with Hudson, experienced producer Stacey Sher — whose resume includes titles such as “Pulp Fiction”, “Erin Brockovich”, “Gattaca” and “Django Unchained” — will join the production team.
The sequel appears to arrive at the right moment, driven by the wave of nostalgia for the millennium change that Hollywood travels. Only in 2026, titles like “The Devil Wears Prada 2” and “Toy Story 5” are demonstrating that the public’s appetite for hits from the late 1990s and early 2000s remains intact.
“Practical Magic 2” and “Focker-In-Law” are soon to be added, while “Shrek 5” and the film “Narnia” directed by Greta Gerwig are scheduled for 2027.
Hudson would come to this project with the boost of his recent Oscar nomination for “Song Sung Blue” (2025), his second nomination after the recognition for his unforgettable Penny Lane in “Almost Famous”. He is currently staring in the sports comedy series “Running Point” for Netflix.
