Preoccupation in the world of music after it was confirmed that singer Lionel Richie was admitted to a medical center for the third time in the year. On this occasion, the 77-year-old was subjected to a procedure to treat an atrial fibrillation (AFib), his representative confirmed in statements to People magazine.
According to the artist’s spokesman, the intervention consisted of ablation, a minimally invasive treatment designed to correct abnormal electrical impulses from the heart and restore a regular heart rhythm. The source reassured the followers by assuring that “the doctor said everything went perfectly.”
The recent health breakdown adds to a recurring medical history in recent months. At the end of August, the artist was interned for three days — some of them in the intensive care unit — to undergo heart checks after a show in St. Louis. Louis, Missouri, where he had to finish his performance backed on a chair.
Weeks earlier, in June, he had to interrupt a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, after suffering dizziness on the stage, being forced to postpone two dates to recover.
Despite these recurring complications, the signs prior to this latter intervention were encouraging. Hardly a few days before, on September 19, Richie reappeared publicly alongside her partner, Lisa Parigi, at a dinner in Beverly Hills, where he was seen smiling and with an optimistic gesture before the press.
“Lionel is fine, but he will take some free time and return to the stage soon,” his spokesman said. The musician’s team is confident that this procedure will be the definitive solution to his heart disease and will allow him to resume his artistic agenda in the short term.
