Letitia James, Attorney General of New York, turned against the candidates supported in the Democratic primaries by Zohran Mamdani, Mayor of New York, whom she defines as lacking knowledge of local politics.

The three candidates that the Ugandan-born politician openly supported won their respective races, even facing Adriano Espaillat, president of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), a situation that demonstrates his empathy with a large sector of local citizens.

This anticipates an intense battle between progressives and moderates heading into the legislative elections to be held in November.

However, from the perspective of Prosecutor James, the Democrats promoted by Mamdani are not the most suitable to represent the New York population, since they are unaware of the behavior and differences that prevail in each district that makes up the city.

“Some of the candidates he has supported are people who do not understand New York City politics, the cultural differences from one district to another, who have not been part of the history and struggle of some of these districts, and who are relatively new to the political arena,” he said in an interview with CNN.

The 67-year-old African-American even revealed that she empathizes with Democrats disappointed in the way Zohran Mamdani is trying to change the Democratic Party.

"We are all a little frustrated with the Democratic Party, but it cannot be destroyed. That is what MAGA has done," he stressed.

It should be noted that the attorney general of New York is one of the Democrats most opposed to conservative policies and after having tried to send Donald Trump to jail on the grounds of having incurred fraud through his companies.

That is why his opinion matters to the members of his party and to the citizens of New York.

Being in disagreement with Zohran Mamdani shows the division that the Democratic Party has found itself in since it lost the presidential elections in 2024, a complex situation just over four months before the midterm elections.
