Mykhailo Mudryk was cleared to return to play immediately after the English Football Association (FA) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) resolved the disciplinary procedure opened for an adverse result related to meldonium.

The decision puts an end to a case that kept the Ukrainian winger off the field since the end of 2024. The footballer has not played an official match with Chelsea since November 28 of that year, when he participated in the 2-0 victory against Heidenheim.

The FA explained that, during the development of the process, WADA procedures were modified and that these new rules changed the evaluation of the substance detected in the player's sample. "Changes have been made... which, although not retroactive, mean that if Mr. Mudryk's sample had been collected today, the concentration of meldonium in the sample would not have been reported and no anti-doping rule violation would have occurred," the agency said.

The case arose while Mudryk was concentrating with the Ukrainian national team. Following the adverse result, he was banned for four years in January 2025 and subsequently appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in April.

The FA confirmed that the footballer admitted the offense and accepted a suspension equivalent to the time he had already served out of the competition. “Mudryk is not suspended and can return to competition with immediate effect,” the English body said.

Chelsea celebrated the resolution of the file and announced that it is already working to reincorporate the attacker into the group. “This has been a particularly difficult period for Mudryk, both personally and professionally, and we are delighted that a conclusion has been reached that allows him to return to football with immediate effect,” the London club said in a statement.

The entity added that the player always maintained that he did not intentionally consume a prohibited substance and that he did not know how the meldonium had reached his body.

Mudryk also reacted publicly to the news. “I am grateful that this process has concluded, that I have been authorized to return to football and that I can now look to the future,” he wrote on his social networks.

The Ukrainian international reiterated the version he had maintained since the beginning of the case. "As I have always maintained since the beginning of this case, I have never knowingly or intentionally consumed any prohibited substance. My commitment to fair competition and to representing my club and my country with professionalism and integrity has always been fundamental to me," he said.

Mudryk assured that his priority now is to return to competitive activity. “Now my goal is to return to football, work hard every day and do my bit on the field,” he added before thanking the support received during the process.

The winger, signed by Chelsea for 100 million euros with a contract until 2031, will be able to immediately rejoin the club's sporting dynamics and once again opt to compete with both his team and the Ukrainian national team.
