FC Porto and Colombian Luis Díaz joined forces to support the victims of the earthquake that shook Colombia on August 10, through an initiative that seeks to transform the bond between the footballer and the Portuguese club in aid for the damaged.

The FC Porto Foundation will collaborate with the foundation of Díaz, currently a Bayern Munich player, on the creation of a special t-shirt to pay tribute to the victims of the disaster and will be used to raise funds for the affected communities.

The main color of the t-shirt is yellow, in reference to Colombia, and it has the phrase “Al you win or lose” on the front.

On the back is the logo of a fictional coffee brand called “The Colombian Dragon”, a combination that refers to the South American country’s coffee tradition and the nickname of the Portuguese club.

FC Porto players used their t-shirts on Sunday during their departure to play the match of the third day of the Portugal League against Arouca.

After the meeting, the garments will be signed by the members of the staff to be subsequently auctioned.

The proceeds will be allocated to the population affected by the earthquake.

The collaboration aims to go beyond the tribute and use the popularity of football to generate concrete support to those affected by the emergency.

“Through this joint initiative, both foundations aim to turn the bond between FC Porto and Colombia into a concrete message of solidarity and mobilization, putting the unifying force of football at the service of those who most need it,” the club said.

The alliance also recovers the bond between Luis Díaz and FC Porto, a team in which the Colombian striker became one of the most important figures before continuing his career in Europe.

The earthquake occurred on August 10 and had a magnitude of 7.4, its epicenter was located near San José del Palmar, in the Chocó department.

The disaster has caused hundreds of fatalities and left numerous communities affected, which are now facing the consequences of the emergency and the recovery work.

The initiative of FC Porto and the foundation of Luis Díaz seeks to channel part of the aid to those populations through the auction of the shirts used by the team.

FC Porto’s relationship with Colombian football has strengthened over the last few decades.

In addition to Luis Díaz, several of the most prominent Colombian footballers of recent years have made important strides for the Portuguese club.

Among them are Radamel Falcao, James Rodríguez, Jackson Martínez, Fredy Guarín and Matheus Uribe, who left their mark during their respective stages in the team.

The club alsoins a bench in Bogotá, reinforcing the connection that exists between the Portuguese institution and Colombian football.

Now, that relationship will have a new chapter, this time out of the pitch and with a solidary goal: to support the people affected by the earthquake that struck Colombia.
