Javier Aguirre is now Valencia’s new coach. The Mexican coach was presented to the media in Mestalla and made it clear from the first moment what will be his goal: to win as soon as possible to change the situation of the team.
“People are tired of messages. no messages. we’re going to play against Racing de Santander and the best message people can receive is a victory,” he said.
Aguirre recognized the dimension of the challenge ahead, but avoided resorting to promises. "I will try to give them a victory as soon as possible. I could be very good with words, but that’s not my intention. Of course I know where I come from, the property, what happens. I don’t want to be repetitive, but the immediate plan is to win. I have to devote myself as soon as possible to giving him a joy.”
The coach also explained why he accepted the proposal of Valencia, despite having other options and enjoying time with his family.
“I can never say no to Valencia. He’s a history of the league, of world football, he has a brutal hobby, I’ve come from a rival and you’re ‘accommoded’, as you say. I want it to be an imposing stadium for the rival and I want the team to return to the places it deserves.”

The Mexican comes to a team that adds four points after seven days and needs a reaction. For Aguirre, Valencia has individual talent and a quality pitch, but it must regain confidence in its own capabilities.
His idea of play goes through intensity and effort, two aspects he considers negotiable.
“My teams can be whatever they are, but they are characterized by a lot of energy. Winning my teams must cost you blood, sweat and tears. I was pretty ugly as a footballer, but I left the last drop of sweat. The effort is not negotiable, as they say now.”
Aguirre also recognized the work of interim coach Óscar Sánchez and highlighted the young people who have had participation with the first team, including Mayol, Otorbi and Córdoba.
The coach signed for a season, with an option for a second, although he made it clear that he does not think beyond the first commitment.

Faithful to his close and spontaneous style, Aguirre also left several distracted moments during his presentation. When a question was not of his pleasure, he replied with a very characteristic phrase: “So don’t do it to me, güey.”
The 67-year-old Mexican also joked about the passage of time and his personal life. “I’m every day more stunned,” he commented at another moment, before recognizing who has the last word at home: “I don’t know, son, because it will be what Silvia – his wife – will say, who is the one who commands.”
Beyond the jokes, the technician assured that he will remain the same as ever: “I will be the Javier of always.”
Valencia’s sports director, Braulio Vázquez, said he had made it clear that Aguirre wanted to take office just seven minutes after starting the conversation, even before talking about economic issues.
Aguirre’s debut at the head of Valencia will be against Racing de Santander, in El Sardinero. The coach will have little time to prepare the match and will have to work with a team that drags several lows.
It will be his sixth experience in Spanish football, after directing Osasuna, Atlético de Madrid, Zaragoza, Espanyol, Leganés and Mallorca.
Aguirre knows that the context demands immediate results. Therefore, in his presentation he did not want to advance large promises or talk about long-term goals. His message was much more concrete: Valencia needs to win, and that will be the starting point of their work.
