The possibility of competing for a new international title with Tigres currently occupies much of Ángel Correa's attention. However, in the run-up to the Concacaf Champions Cup final against Toluca, the Argentine striker also referred to one of the most important news of his recent career: his absence from Argentina's squad for the 2026 World Cup.

The 31-year-old attacker admitted that the decision caused him pain, although he assured that he will maintain his support for the team led by Lionel Scaloni during the defense of the title won by the Albiceleste in Qatar 2022.

"The World Cup, it's sad that I can't be there. I don't know why. That's what the coach should say. Since I arrived at Tigres I felt that I competed and performed at my best. If he decided that I didn't have to be in the World Cup it's because there are other kids who are very good, as an Argentinian I'm going to encourage everyone," said the striker.

Correa was part of the world champion squad four years ago, but this time he was left out of the final list of 26 players selected for the World Cup event. Despite the disappointment, he avoided publicly questioning the decision of the coaching staff and highlighted the level of the players who were called up.

Tigres and a new opportunity to compete for an international title

While Argentina prepares to seek a new world championship, Correa concentrates its efforts on the commitment that Tigres will face this Saturday at the Nemesio Díez stadium, a stage located more than 2,600 meters above sea level, where the Monterrey team will visit Toluca in the final of the Concacaf Champions Cup.

The forward explained that he is going through this moment relying on the career he has built within professional football and the experiences accumulated over the years.

"I am fortunate in football and the life that has allowed me to live these moments. I started when I was 18 in Argentina with San Lorenzo, then I played with Atlético de Madrid and with my national team. I am fortunate in life to be able to experience all this," he stressed.

Throughout his career, Correa has won relevant titles both at the club and national team level. These include the Copa Libertadores with San Lorenzo, the UEFA Europa League and the European Super Cup with Atlético de Madrid, as well as the Copa América and the World Cup with Argentina.

The footballer also recalled the reasons that led him to leave the Spanish team to embark on a new stage in Mexican football.

"I decided, together with my family, to leave the comfort zone that I had at Atlético, which is a club that I love. We decided to come to Tigres, a team that knows how to play finals. The truth is I am very excited to help Tigres win this international title," he said.

Tigres will try to win the second Concacaf title in its history. The club won the 2020 edition and previously lost in the finals played in 2016, 2017 and 2019. This Saturday's match will represent the fifth time in which the team plays the decisive match of the continental tournament.
