On Monday, Samurai Japan made its first official lineup for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, confirming Shohei Ohtani and Yoshino Yamamoto's participation as two of its biggest stars. Eight Major League Baseball players are included in the statement made by supervisor Hirokazu Ibata, which is the highest total in Chinese team history for this competition. Yamamoto, the team's current aces, now makes a comeback against the Los Angeles Dodgers that he previously won in 2013. Yusei Kikuchi ( Angels ), Seiya Suzuki ( Cubs ), Yuki Matsui ( Padres ), Munetaka Murakami ( White Sox ), Kazuma Okamoto ( Blue Jays ), and free agent right-handed pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano will all be with him. The squad retains the team's base, which is currently in the defending champion. 15 members of the squad made up the team that won the title in 2023, bolstering the team's devotion to consistency and experience in the quest for a new crown.

Earnings, absences, and a management concept

One of the biggest possibilities was Yamamoto's profit. His cooperation with the Dodgers had been questioned due to his demanding workload with them during the 2025 season, which included 30 starts, a 2. 49 ERA, and a fourth place finish in the National League Cy Young Award ballot. This was in addition to the finals, where he was a key player in the Los Angeles team's quest for their second consecutive tournament. He had 37. 1 more innings pitched.

Eventually, the right-hander expressed his loyalty to Samurai Japan and posted a text on the group's official website.

" Wearing the Chinese even once more gives me a lot of pride and responsibility. This summer, I worked hard to prepare for the WBC in the best way possible. We will work together to achieve the top, with exceptional teammates and a trustworthy coaching staff.

Roki Sasaki, who is coming off a rough rookie season with the Dodgers, and Lars Nootbaar, who had surgery on both feet during the summer, are two others who haven't played. Both made the lineup for the tournament. but they won't get around this period.

On February 14, the Chinese group will begin their training camp in Miyazaki Prefecture. The athletes who are based in Japan may practice there until the 24th before participating in the Samurai Japan Series. Beginning with the Osaka exhibition games scheduled for March 2 and the MLB people joining the team, which may begin with the roster.

Japan, which won the World Baseball Classic in 2006, 2009, and 2013, was placed in Group C along with Australia, South Korea, Czech Republic, and Chinese Taipei. On March 6 at the Tokyo Dome, they may make their debut.
