The figure of Julián Álvarez became the center of a new dispute between the two main clubs in Madrid this Tuesday. What began as a consultation about the contractual situation of the Argentine forward led to official statements, conflicting versions and a series of public messages that raised the tension between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid.

The white club announced that it had submitted an offer of 150 million euros for the federative rights of the Argentine attacker. As explained by the entity, the proposal was made after a meeting of its Board of Directors and subsequently rejected by Atlético, which referred the interested party to the termination clause set at 500 million euros.

The figure would have been one of the highest operations in the history of football. According to the records cited by Real Madrid itself, only Neymar, transferred from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain for 222 million euros, and Kylian Mbappé, acquired by the Parisian club for 180 million from Monaco, have made superior moves. This same summer, Alexander Isak was transferred from Newcastle to Liverpool for 145 million.

The operation is also related to a promise made by Florentino Pérez during the club's recent electoral campaign, when he announced that he would try to incorporate a footballer through an offer of 150 million euros, an amount that he described as the largest investment in the history of the institution.

Atlético denies negotiations and responds with irony

The red and white reaction did not take long to arrive. Atlético de Madrid sources consulted assured that Real Madrid contacted the club to show interest in Julián Álvarez and ask about his situation, but they maintained that there was never a formal offer because the response was immediate: the player is not for sale, EFE noted.

From the Metropolitano entity they indicated that they received the Madrid statement with surprise and reiterated that they do not contemplate listening to proposals from the Argentine striker, regardless of the financial amounts that may be put on the table.

The club considers Álvarez a fundamental piece of its sporting project. With a contract valid until June 2030, the attacker has accumulated 49 goals in 106 games since his arrival from Manchester City and has finished as the red and white top scorer in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons.

The difference in criteria was also reflected on social networks. From its official account on

“The video of the Pope where he said that he was also from Atleti was cut,” the red and white club wrote in one of its responses.

Later he added: “They may have confused education with gratitude, but just so there is no doubt: we do not thank them for anything.”

The Madrid entity also stated: “We neither study nor evaluate any offer for Julián.”

The exchange concluded with another message addressed to Real Madrid: “How can we not get along, if you make us laugh even more than Barcelona.”

Meanwhile, Julián Álvarez's future continues to be linked to Atlético de Madrid, and more immediately to the Argentine National Team, while publicly maintaining his position of not negotiating the departure of one of the footballers considered most important within his current sporting project.
