Sergi Roberto arrives in the MLS with the LA Galaxy
The historic former Barcelona player, Sergi Roberto, arrives in the United States at the age of 34 after a brief stint in Serie A
The Los Angeles Galaxy continue to strengthen their squad with international experience and this Saturday the incorporation of Spanish Sergi Roberto was confirmed, who signed a contract until 2028 and will have the possibility of extending it for an additional season, until 2029.
The agreement is pending the footballer obtaining his P-1 visa, a necessary requirement to be qualified and officially join the MLS club.
The arrival of the Spanish midfielder and full-back comes just one day after the franchise confirmed the loan of Mexican Hirving “Chucky” Lozano from San Diego FC, a move that also included a definitive purchase option.
With these two consecutive operations, the Galaxy adds two players with extensive international experience to face the coming seasons.
A profile with experience in champion teams
The general manager of the Los Angeles club, Will Kuntz, highlighted the qualities that motivated the signing of the former FC Barcelona player.
“Sergi brings a combination of leadership, technical quality, tactical intelligence and winning experience that few players have,” Kuntz said.
"He has been a key member of some of the best teams of his generation and understands not only what it takes to win, but also what it means to be part of a winning team. Sergi's character, his positional versatility and his leadership will be invaluable, and we are excited to welcome him and his family to the LA Galaxy," added the manager.
Sergi Roberto, 34 years old, arrives from Como 1907, a club with which he played two seasons in the Italian Serie A.
During his time in Italy he accumulated a goal and an assist in 37 official matches and was part of the team that managed to finish in the top ten of the league on its return to the top flight.
From La Masía to Italy and now to California
The Spaniard joined Como in August 2024, after the Lombard team's promotion to Serie A.
Before that experience, he had developed his entire professional career at FC Barcelona. He joined La Masía at the age of 14 and remained linked to the Catalan club throughout his career in Spain.
His signing represents a new stage in American soccer for a player accustomed to competing in the European elite.
The Galaxy did not detail the role he will have within the team, although the club highlighted his ability to perform in different positions and his experience in high-level competitive locker rooms.
